Should I go for a Sony FDR X3000R?

Am planning to take some still photos and videos this coming spring for our American Football school team. Someone has recommended i buy a Sony FDR X3000R. Will this serve me?

This camera is for handheld, not sure if its a good idea, plus need a good zoom to capture nice shots.

You sure can go for that if it is just for your own memories and reference. But for professional or high-end quality, you may have to consider adding some $$ to get a premium camera. Analysis of AFB requires high res cameras.
